Call for nomination: Nils Klim Prize 2014


The Nils Klim Prize is awarded to a Nordic researcher who has made an outstanding contribution to research in the arts and humanities, social science, law or theology, either within one of these fields or through interdisciplinary work. Particular importance will be attached to the researcher’s originality and innovative ability. It should also be considered whether the research contribution in question appears as particularly outstanding or promising in light of the researcher’s age, the nature of the research project and the research tradition in the academic field in question.

Candidates must be under the age of 35 on 15 June 2013, the closing date for nominations.

The Board of the Ludvig Holberg Memorial Fund hereby invites nominations for the prize.

The Prize, which was established by the Norwegian Parliament in 2003, is awarded annually by the Board of the Ludvig Holberg Memorial Fund. The Board will award the Prize on the basis of the recommendation from the Nils Klim Prize Academic Committee. The Prize for 2014 amounts to 250,000 NOK (approximately 34 000 EUR /43 000 USD*).

The winner of the 2014 Nils Klim Prize will be announced in February 2014, and the award ceremony will take place in Bergen, Norway in June 2014.

Scholars holding a position at universities and other research institutions, including academies, are entitled to nominate candidates for the Nils Klim Prize. The letter of nomination should be written in English and state the reason for the nomination in 2 to 3 pages. The nomination should also include the candidate’s CV including list of publications, copies of doctoral thesis and another significant publication. It should also suggest referees who know the scholar’s work. If the included files are exceeding 50 MB, please contact the Secretariat.

Nominations are strictly confidential. They should not be disclosed to the nominee or to others at any time.

Holberg International Memorial Prize is awarded annually for outstanding scholarly work in the fields of the arts and humanities, social sciences, law and theology. The prize amount is NOK 4.5 million (Appr. EUR 610,000/ USD 790,000)
